RE: AFSCME
Council 40 Health and Safety Conference - October 17-18, 2003
The Council 40 Health and Safety Committee
is sponsoring an important Health and Safety Conference
to be held at the Lake of the Torches Resort/Casino, in Lac du Flambeau on October 17-18, 2003. A copy of the Conference Agenda is
attached for your information.
Given that municipal employers have a vested interest in making sure all workers are
properly trained in job safety, your particular employer may be willing to pay for all or
part of the cost to send members of your local to this conference. It won’t hurt to ask.
The actual cost of the conference for participants should be minimal. There is no
registration fee. All class materials will be provided by the Union. Costs borne by the
local union (or employer) would include: Lodging ($70 single/double/$7 per extra adult +
5.5% tax), lost wages, mileage to and from Lac du Flambeau, and meals.
We strongly urge all locals to send members to this conference. Any AFSCME member is
welcome to attend. It is this kind of training that literally saves lives! Sign up by
filling out the registration form at the bottom of the attached Conference Agenda. Send
the registration form to the Council 40 office in Madison by September 30, 2003. Please feel free to make copies of
the registration form if sending more than one person.
We’ve reserved a block of rooms at the Lake of the Torches Resort/Casino. You should
make your lodging reservations directly, with the Lake of the Torches Resort/Casino, phone
1-715-588-9200 or 1-800-258-6724. Be sure to mention the AFSCME Council 40 Health &
Safety Conference room block. Please note the hotel registration deadline is
October 9, 2003. If you are commuting or staying at
another area hotel, that’s fine.
Feel free to call our Madison office for more information (1-800-362-8261). We hope to see
many AFSCME members in Lac du Flambeau in October.
