“Welcome to Reality” – Rally and Expanded Vigil

Out-of-state anti-government zealots are bankrolling a rally at the State Capitol on Wednesday, Oct. 17.  Their goal is to provide cover for Assembly Republicans who are preventing adoption of Wisconsin’s long-overdue state budget.

This is why people who understand the real consequences of failing to finish a budget will also come to the Capitol on Oct. 17.  We will remind the zealots of reality.  Failure to finish the budget will mean real cuts for real people and real pain.

10 a.m.

First wave of participants arrive at the Capitol and come to the rotunda to join the ongoing state employee budget vigil that has been a constant presence during the budget delay.  Vigil participants walk slowly and quietly, a constant reminder that citizens are watching their elected officials and expect them to do their jobs.  Make sure to visit your senator and representative.  You can identify your legislators at http://waml.legis.state.wi.us.

10:30 a.m.

News conference in Senate Parlor.  Real people talk about how not having a budget will cause real cuts and real pain.  Participants in the expanded vigil are welcome to come to the Senate Parlor and watch the news conference.

11:45 a.m.

Participants mass on the square at East Washington Avenue.

Noon

Participants create perimeter around the Anti-Reality Rally – keeping a respectful distance while providing a peaceful, quiet, non-verbal welcome to reality.

12:30 p.m. – 2:00 p.m.

Participants resume the vigil, returning indoors as the numbers recede.   Office visits continue.
