LAWMAKERS TO VOTE JANUARY 9 ON BIPARTISAN ETHICS REFORM PACKAGE - Wednesday's
inauguration activities are over and next week lawmakers will return to Madison to vote on major ethics
reform legislation. The bipartisan ethics package includes the merger of the State Ethics board and the
State Elections Board into what will be the new "Government Accountability Board", which will be
comprised of appointees made by Court of Appeals judges rather than legislative politicians. The Board
will be empowered and given the necessary resources to carry out criminal and civil investigations without
seeking approval from the Legtislature or Governor.
