STEWARD TRAINING IN WAUSAU. . .The International Union in cooperation with
Council 40 is
sponsoring a free Steward Training Workshop on Saturday, January 20, from 9:00
a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
at the Wausau Labor Temple. Among the topics covered will be public sector
labor laws, contract
interpretation, grievance investigation and problem solving, arbitration standards in
contract interpretation
and discipline or discharge cases. Advance written registration is required andm ust be
received by

SCHOLARSHIPS. . .A reminder: The application
deadline for the current round of competition under
the Council 40 Memorial Scholarship Program is Thursday, February 1. Ten scholarships
worth a
total of $24,000 will be awarded. Be sure the members of your Local/Chapter are informed!
RETIREES. . .Another reminder: Council 40 pays the first year's dues to
Wisconsin AFSCME Retirees
Chapter No. 7 on behalf of the retirees of all Council 40 affiliates. That policy
continues into the new year.
Be sure to notify the Council office when members of your Local/Chapter retire.
We want to get them
started off on the right foot in the retirees organization. Our retirees are a valuable
asset in our lobbying
efforts, and we will need all the help we can get in the coming legislative session.
GERMANTOWN. . .Technical and clerical employees who work for the Village of
Germantown, members
of Local 3024, recently ratified their first labor contract. Our new members in
Germantown received a wage
increase of 25¢/hour retroactive to 10/15/05 and another 3% and 50¢/hour
retroactive to 1/1/06. On 1/1/07
wages went up 3% again and another 3% pay hike is set for 1/1/08. All part-time employees
got an
additional 10¢/hour retroactive to 10/15/06. The Employer agreed to continue paying 90%
of the single
and family health insurance premiums and 100% of the single and family dental premiums.
The new
contract includes a full range of seniority rights, subcontracting restrictions, the just
cause standard, fair
share, 150 days of sick leave, 11 holidays and more. Congratulations, Germantown members,
on your first
contract!

Council 40
Convention set for April 13-15 in Wisconsin Dells, please note that we're planning to
expand our
educational workshops to two full sets on Friday, April 13, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.
You may want to
plan on arriving in the Dells on Thursday evening.
