CONVENTION CALL.
. .Mailed to secretaries at all
affiliates this week was the Council 40 Convention Call. Our
65th Annual Convention will be held April 18-20 at the Holiday Inn Hotel &
Conference Center in Stevens Point. Like
last year we have planned nearly a dozen different workshops, starting at 9:00
a.m. on Friday, April 18, so you may
want to plan on arriving Thursday evening. The pre-registration deadline for
delegates and observers is March 25,
2008.
CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENTS. . .Enclosed within the Call are copies
of two proposed amendments to the
Council 40 Constitution. Proposed Amendment #1 would establish a separate
“highway district” for the newly
organized independent child care providers. Proposed Amendment #2 would add a
retiree representative to the
Council 40 executive board.
COUNCIL 40'S 2ND ANNUAL PEOPLE FUN WALK. . .Note that the 1-3 mile
PEOPLE Fun Walk will begin
promptly at 7:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 19. Meet at the Holiday Inn Hotel &
Conference Center, exact location will
be announced at the Convention. Bring your best (or worst!) AFSCME shirt for the
Fun Walk.
EXECUTIVE BOARD MINUTES. . .Secretaries have also been sent copies
of the approved minutes of the
December and January Executive Board meetings held in Madison.
DISTRICT #7. . .Here is a reminder that the District #7 Spring
Conference is scheduled for Saturday, March 1, at
the American Legion Hall, 1002 Coon Street, Rhinelander. Registration, coffee
and rolls at 9:30 a.m.; call to order at
10:00 a.m. The agenda includes a preview of Council 40's Convention, discussion
of spring elections, reports from
the Officers, Executive Board members and Staff Representatives. You Have a

WAUKESHA. . .Waukesha School District’s custodial, clerical,
educational assistants, and food service employees,
all members of Local 2485, have a new 3-year contract. By agreeing to a
different insurance plan, all groups
received a significant wage increase the first year of the contract. Education
assistants and clerical employees
received a 4.9% increase retroactive to 7/1/07. Custodial and food service
employees received a 4.5% increase
retroactive to 7/1/07. All employees are scheduled to receive a 2.75% increase
7/1/08. Custodial and food service
employees will receive a 2.75% increase 7/1/09. Educational assistants and
clericals will receive a 2.35% increase
7/1/09. These wage increases were achieved by agreeing to switch from a WEA
Point of Service plan to a WEA
Trust Preferred plan.
