NEW POLITICAL ACTION REP. . .We are also pleased to announce that
Council 40's first ever political
action representative will be Jason Sidener. Many of you already know Brother
Sidener as the Take Back
Wisconsin/Take Back America staffer for South Central and Southwestern
Wisconsin, a position he has held
for the past five years. Although he begins his new position next week, he will
continue to work out of the
International’s office until after the April 1 spring elections and can be
reached at 608-836-6666.
FAREWELL TO CHARLES LUNEY. . .International Area Director Charles
Luney, who has served
Wisconsin, Iowa and Missouri since September 2005, is retiring. He began his
career with the International
as an organizer in Kentucky 22 years ago. Since then, his work has touched the
lives of thousands of
AFSCME members. Best wishes in retirement, Brother Luney!
DISTRICT #3. . .Here is a reminder that the District #3 Spring
Conference is scheduled for Saturday,
March 29, at the Best Western Lakefront Hotel, 101 Maritime Drive, Manitowoc.
Registration and continental
breakfast at 8:00 a.m.; call to order at 9:00 a.m. The agenda includes a preview
of Council 40's Convention,
discussion of spring elections, and reports from officers, Executive Board
members, staff representatives,
and advisory committees. A special PEOPLE training event is also planned. Be
sure to contact retired
members from the District and invite them to attend the Conference. They are a
valuable resource to us all!
WISCONSIN DELLS. . .DPW, City Hall, and Library employees in
Wisconsin Dells, members of Local
1401-A, have a new 3-year contract. Wages increased 2% on 1/1/08 and an
additional 2% lift is scheduled
for 7/1/08. Two percent splits are also scheduled for 1/1 and 7/1 in ‘09 and
‘10. The library clerk position
receives an additional 50¢/hour adjustment prior to the overall wage increase
and the maintenance mechanic
position has been reclassified to leadman. The City continues to provide the
state plan health insurance
options. The Employer also continues to pay 90% of the dental insurance
premiums.
