DISTRICTS #4 & #7. . .Here is a reminder that the recently
combined Districts #4 & #7 Spring Conference
is scheduled for Saturday, April 5, at Shooter’s Supper Club (lower level), 5330

54 Intersection across from Elizabeth Inn), Plover. Registration at 8:30 a.m.;
call to order at 9:00 a.m. Invited
special guest speakers are Senate Majority Leader Russ Decker, Senator Julie
Lassa, and Representatives
Louis Molepske, Marlin Schneider, Donna Seidel, and Amy Sue Vruwink. The agenda
includes Council 40
and International Union conventions details, PEOPLE report, and reports from
Council 40 leadership.
TWO MORE CONVENTION WORKSHOPS. . .In addition to the workshops
outlined in the Convention Call,
we are pleased to announce two more workshops. The first is critical for
treasurers: Your Local Union’s
Finances - Are You in Control? Taught by the same accountants who audit Council
40, this workshop will help
local leaders understand the use of internal controls to prevent fraud, the
importance of conducting an annual
audit, and an overview of the new IRS Form 990-N as well as Forms 990 and 990EZ.
The second workshop
is: Investor Education for Working Families. The objectives of the session is
for participants to become
familiar and gain confidence with the language and key concepts of investing, to
understand the power of
saving and investing small amounts of money over long periods of time and the
choices required to do that,
and to learn how to get started making wise investment and savings choices. This
session will be taught by
Associate Director Jack Bernfeld.
IRON COUNTY. . .Highway Department employees here, members of
Local 728, have a new 3-year
contract. All employees received a 50¢/hour increase effective 1/1/08.
Additional 50¢/hour increases are
scheduled for 1/1/09 and 1/1/10. The County continues to pay 90% of the single
and family health insurance
premiums. Benefit improvements include the following: the clothing allowance
increases from $250/year in
2008 to $300/year in 2009 to $350/year in 2010; Christmas Eve becomes a full-day
holiday (was ½ day);
and employees may now substitute sick leave under FMLA for care of immediate
family members with
serious health conditions.
