MANITOWOC COUNTY APPEAL. . .The County Executive in Manitowoc is pressing hard to sell the
Manitowoc County Health Care Center. If he succeeds, the 145 members of Local 1288 will lose their
jobs and at best have a chance at being rehired by the new owners. A grassroots "fightback campaign" is
underway to convince the County Board to keep the Health Care Center for the good of all the citizens it
serves. Contributions are needed now. Please make checks payable to AFSCME Local 1288 Fightback
and send to: Rita Metzger, Treasurer, Local 1288, 513 Chicago Street, Manitowoc, WI 54220.

PIG ROAST TIME. . .The famous Manitowoc County PEOPLE Pig Roast is set for Tuesday, July 17, at
Manitowoc’s Lincoln Park
. Great food and even better company. Tickets won’t be sold at the door, so
order now by sending $15 per ticket to Michele Kohlbeck, 719 North 9th Street, Manitowoc, WI 54220.

SCHOOL FOR WORKERS. . .Enclosed for Presidents and Secretaries is the Fall 2007 School for
Workers
class schedule and registration form. Among the classes are Financial Officer Training, Spread-
sheet Training, Worker’s Compensation, Job Evaluation, Union Leadership, and Building Arguments for

DODGE COUNTY. . .Members of the various chapters of Local 1323 and Local 1576 in Dodge County
recently ratified a 3% wage increase effective 2/15/07. They’re in the last year of three-year contracts that
have a wage re-opener for 2007. The County will continue to pay 100% of the single and family health
insurance premiums. Together both locals represent members in six bargaining units at the Dodge County
Health Facility, Highway Department, Courthouse and Social Services Department, and Sheriff’s
Department.

CHILD CARE ORGANIZERS NEEDED. . .Here’s a reminder that Volunteer Member Organizers (VMOs)
are need July 22-28 in Madison, Eau Claire, Wausau, and Green Bay. Child care providers are the
