LEADERSHIP TRAINING INSTITUTE. . .Here is a reminder that Council 40 will sponsor another Basic
Leadership Training Institute
this year to be held on the U.W. Madison campus, September 23-28. It is
open to current leaders of locals or chapters who have not attended the Institute before. The local union’s
cost is only $200 per participant, with Council 40 and the International Union paying for tuition, meals,
lodging, parking, travel and lost wages for the week-long program. The class schedule and registration
information will be sent to all affiliates in July. For further information in the meantime, contact your staff
rep or the Madison office.

AFSCME LEADERSHIP ACADEMY. . .Here’s another great union training opportunity that’s absolutely
free. The new Web Track of the AFSCME Leadership Academy is up and running to provide leadership
training in a wide range of subjects. Among the current class offerings are AFSCME’s Financial Standards
Code, Effective Communications, Power Through Organizing, Health Care Reform Advocacy, Grassroots
Lobbying, and Representing Workers in Disciplinary Hearings. For more information, go to

EXECUTIVE BOARD MEETING. . .The Council 40 Executive Board will meet on Saturday, August 11, at
the Holiday Inn Hotel in Rothschild (Marathon County), beginning at 8:30 a.m.
If your local union or
chapter has some business to place before the Board or wishes to appear at the meeting, please contact
the Madison office ASAP so we can put you on the agenda. A preliminary agenda will be sent to local
union secretaries a couple of weeks before the meeting.

GRAFTON. . .Village of Grafton water utility employees, members of Local 108, recently ratified a new
contract. Wages were increased 3% retro to 1/1/07. Another 3.25% pay hike is set for 1/1/08. The Village
will continue to pay 95% of the single and family health insurance premiums in 2007 and will pay 94%,
single and family, in 2008. The work shoe allowance went from $35/year to $100/every two years.

CHIPPEWA COUNTY. . .Highway Department workers in Chippewa County, members of Local 736, have
a new three-year contract. Wages were increased 53¢/hour (3%) retro to 1/1/07. Effective 7/1/07,
Mechanics received an extra 15¢/hour. On 1/1/08 another 3% wage increase will be applied, followed by
another 3% on 1/1/09. The County will pay 94% of the single and family health insurance premiums in
2007; 93% in 2008; and 92% in 2009. A new provision protecting jobs in the event of CDL loss was added.
