IN MEMORIAM. . .We are sad to report that Jan Helgeson, a maintenance worker for the Janesville School
District and member of Local 938, died unexpectedly during surgery last month. He was 57. Jan was very
involved in union activities and was on a variety of committees over the years. He was best known for his
quick wit in trying to nominate “someone else” to serve on a committee. Jan will be greatly missed by his
wife, Carol; his son, Jason (Lizz) and his new granddaughter, Ava; along with countless family, friends and
co-workers. One of Jan’s most treasured charities was the Valley of the Kings in Sharon, WI. It is a private
refuge for large cats that have been abused, retired or rescued. Anyone wishing to seek more information
or to donate in honor of Jan Helgeson may contact them at info@votk.org.
